Real property taxes are assessed on agricultural, industrial, commercial, residential, and utility property.<\/p><p>A foreigner investing in U.S. real estate needs to take state taxes into account. Each state generally sets property tax rates as a percentage of a property\u2019s assessed value. However, there are wide variations of real estate property tax from state to state. It ranges from <a href=\"https:\/\/thisistucson.com\/3-0-28-property-tax-rate\/article_71839340-fd33-11e6-9a2c-6b65fa79881d.html\">0.28%<\/a> in Hawaii to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ownwell.com\/trends\/new-jersey\/middlesex-county\/new-brunswick#:~:text=Median%20New%20Brunswick%2C%20NJ%20effective,NJ%20state%20median%20of%202.82%25.\">2.49%<\/a> in New Jersey, and there can also be local rate variations among different locales in the same state.<\/p><p>For example, Maria, a Canadian citizen, purchases a $500,000 condominium in Princeton, New Jersey, as an investment property. Based on New Jersey&#8217;s property tax rate of 2.49%, she would pay approximately $12,450 annually in property taxes ($500,000 \u00d7 0.0249 = $12,450).<\/p><p>While property taxes may be similar for foreign nationals and U.S. citizens, there could be slight differences.
